Peter Garcia

Mayor Pro Tem, Council Member at City of Fontana

Peter Garcia was elected to the Fontana City Council in 2020 and also serves as the current Chairman of the City of Fontana Successor Agency. Prior to joining the City Council, he served a four-year term on the Fontana Unified School District Board of Education after being elected in 2016. He was elected by his peers as the President of the Board of Education in 2018. From 2008 to 2016, Mr. Garcia was an appointed member of the City of Fontana Planning Commission where he held various leadership positions, including that of the Chairperson. He is a strong proponent of youth sports and has served as a volunteer baseball coach/manager for Fontana Community Little League, and Fontana Pony Baseball.

Mr. Garcia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, and is a scientist with the California Environmental Protection Agency. He is the Southern California Regional Executive Manager for the Department of Toxic Substances Control, Site Mitigation Program. Mr. Garcia is responsible for protecting human health and the environment from hazardous substance contaminated properties throughout California. Prior to his current position, Mr. Garcia was an Associate Principle Scientist for a community planning/design, and environmental consulting firm.
