Karen Covarrubias is an accomplished marketing and communications professional with extensive experience across multiple organizations, currently serving as the Executive Assistant to the City Manager and Public Information Specialist for the City of Laredo since May 2019. Prior roles include account management at Red Fuse Communications and senior account executive at Campbell Ewald, where Karen worked with brands such as HBO Latino and IHOP. Karen has demonstrated expertise in managing project timelines, implementing digital marketing strategies, executing experiential activations, and fostering client relationships, while also leading and supervising teams. Educational credentials include a Master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communication from Florida State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from Texas State University.

The City of Laredo is a city with a current population of approximately 257,156 residents and is located on the north bank of the historic Rio Grande River (or Rio Bravo, as it is known in Mexico). Laredo is unique in that it is the only city to operate international bridges between two Mexican states. The city presently maintains four international bridges crossing the Rio Grande into the Mexican states of Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon. Laredo is the United States principal port of entry into Mexico, located on the Pan American Highway that stretches from Canada into Central and South America. With 83.44 square miles and its current population base, Laredo is the largest city in the County of Webb and is the county seat of Webb County.
