John D. Bendo

John Bendo has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. John started their career in the US Navy as a Reactor Operator/Electronics Technician, where they gained extensive knowledge in reactor operations and maintenance. Following their military service, John worked as a Field Service Technician at Target Rock Corporation and an Associate Engineer at Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation.

In 1992, John joined Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as a Reactor Operator, responsible for operating and maintaining a university critical reactor facility. John then transitioned to Electric Boat, where they worked as a Project Engineer, managing various projects until 1996.

Afterwards, John joined Molten Metal Technology as an Operations Engineer, overseeing the design, operation, and maintenance of a molten metal bath chemical processing reactor. John then joined Duke Engineering & Services as a Project Engineer, before moving on to ASME (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers).

At ASME, John held several roles, including Senior Program Manager for Engineering Programs, Nuclear Energy Business Manager, and Business Development Manager for Power and Energy. In these positions, they demonstrated strong leadership skills by managing multiple power/energy divisions, implementing strategies, and coordinating new business development.

John's expertise in the nuclear industry also led him to serve as Vice President of Nuclear Technology at ASME Asia Pacific, LLC. During their tenure, they established global business relationships, identified customer needs, and facilitated the development of market-relevant standards and conformity assessment knowledge.

In 2018, John was elected to the City Council of Long Beach, New York. John initially served as a City Council Member before being appointed Vice President and later President of the City Council. In these roles, they provided leadership and played a crucial role in decision-making for the city.

John Bendo's education history begins in 1982 when they attended the U.S. Navy Electronics Technician School, where they studied Industrial Electronics Technology/Technician. In 1983, they furthered their education at the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power School and the U.S. Navy Nuclear Prototype School, focusing on Nuclear/Nuclear Power Technology/Technician. John then pursued their Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Engineering Science from Farmingdale State College from 1988 to 1991. Finally, they earned their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Nuclear Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the period of 1991 to 1993.
