Carole Gernes is an experienced environmental professional with a robust background in natural resource management and education. Currently serving as the Natural Resources Coordinator for the City of Maplewood since November 2020, Carole previously coordinated invasive plant species management for the Ramsey County Cooperative Weed Management Area from June 2010 to November 2020. Carole's expertise encompasses environmental education and conservation, demonstrated through roles as a part-time naturalist and citywide buckthorn coordinator within the City of Maplewood, as well as serving as an environmental educator and naturalist at the Maplewood Nature Center. Additionally, Carole held a position at the Harriett Alexander Nature Center as a naturalist, curriculum writer, and preschool coordinator. Carole earned a Master's degree in Biology from St. Cloud State University.

Maplewood, incorporated in 1957, is a city in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States, is a first ring suburb with about 40,500 people in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, about 15 minutes from downtown Saint Paul. Maplewood has more than 30 parks and a great trail system. The City provides a wide variety of services including a public safety division with a full time Fire Department, robust public works and street clean services, and an efficient highly dedicated staff. The city is also home to the Maplewood Mall and St. John's Hospital. The City of Maplewood operates under the Council-Manager plan. Under this form of government, all legislative power is vested in the elected, part-time City Council. This Council consists of a Mayor and four Councilmembers who are elected at large for four-year staggered terms. The Council adopts policies and ordinances and appoints a professional, full-time City Manager to carry them out. The City Manager is solely responsible for the administration of City business and may delegate authority to promote efficient use of staff time
