Matthew L. Ramadan has a diverse and extensive work experience. Matthew L. started their career in 1986 as the CEO of Ramadan Halal, LLC, where they opened the first halal meat market in Minneapolis and became the first halal certifier in Minnesota. From 2002 to 2004, they worked as a Housing Development Consultant and later as a Consultant and Director of Community Development for regional community development corporations. In 2004, they served as the Planning Director/Zoning Administrator for Warren County. From 2005 to 2008, they were the Executive Director of Operation Breakthrough, Inc., a community action agency. In 2009, they worked as a Broker for Matanky Realty Group. From 2012 to 2016, they were the President/CEO of One Chicago Community Development Corporation, where they focused on revitalizing troubled inner-city neighborhoods and recruiting high-risk populations for community housing projects. In 2013, they served as the Deputy Executive Director of the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago, where they represented Muslim Americans in Illinois. From 2015 to 2016, they worked as the Green ReEntry Manager for the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN). Finally, since 2016, they have been employed as a Senior Project Coordinator for the City of Minneapolis.

From 1974 to 1978, they attended the University of Minnesota, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
Between 1977 and 1980, they studied at the Minneapolis Technical Institute, obtaining a Certificate in Carpentry/Field Engineer.
In 1990, they received a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Lakewood Community College.
The following year, in 1991, they obtained a Certification in Substance Abuse Awareness from Innovative Therapeutic Process.
