Pride in the community is visible in every section from Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport and industrial sector, to the beautifully restored historic homes and businesses in the downtown area. New stores, restaurants and other establishments pop up constantly along Highway 74 while farmlands continue to grow crops and serve as pastureland for animals and livestock. Monroe provides excellent recreational options for residents of all ages. There are parks, various recreational facilities, ball fields, tennis courts, Monroe Aquatics and Fitness Center , Monroe Country Club and Ellen Fitzgerald Senior Center. The city even has future plans to include a greenway to connect all of the city's parks. With a boast of amenities such as these, it is no wonder Monroe is an up-and-coming city. Yet, despite all its progressive growth and energy, Monroe still maintains the charm of a true southern town.
