Matthew Buggert

Matthew Buggert is an Associate Planner with the City of Monterey since September 2021, responsible for reviewing planning and permit applications and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as providing customer service and recommendations. Prior experience includes serving as an Environmental Project Manager at Wood from June 2015 to August 2021, where Matthew oversaw project execution, planning, and permitting related to various environmental regulations. Notable projects involve coordination with multiple jurisdictions and significant environmental assessments. Additional roles include Title Examiner at Fidelity National Title and an Environmental Law Intern at the Environmental Defense Center, where Matthew contributed to research and public outreach efforts on environmental issues. Educational credentials include dual Bachelor’s Degrees in Environmental Studies and Psychology from UC Santa Barbara, with further study at Utrecht University.
