Harold Kippy Tate, AIA has an extensive work experience in the field of architecture and construction. Harold Kippy has held various roles in different organizations throughout their career.
From 2000 to 2007, Tate worked as the Director for the STATE OF ALABAMA Building Commission. In this role, they managed the agency's daily operations, enforced the state's building code, administered contracts for construction projects, and served as an arbitrator for disputes.
In 2007, Tate joined Alabama State University as the Vice President for Buildings and Grounds. Harold Kippy was responsible for managing capital projects, overseeing the operations of the Physical Plant, Public Safety, Student Housing, Inventory Control, Facility Management, and Transportation Department.
Tate later joined Montgomery Housing Authority in 2015 as the Director of Real Estate Development. Their responsibilities included monitoring and protecting the authority's real estate portfolio, ensuring compliance with regulations, and developing plans and estimates for property repairs.
From 2012 to 2015, Tate served as the Vice President of Capital Projects and Facility Service at Tuskegee University. Harold Kippy oversaw various departments and contractors involved in building design and construction, physical plant operation, facility management, and transportation.
In 2017, Tate was promoted to Vice President of Facilities and Construction at Tuskegee University, where they continued to lead capital projects and facility management. Harold Kippy also managed compliance issues related to the Americans with Disabilities Act, Davis Bacon, and LEED certification.
Most recently, starting in 2021, Tate joined the City of Montgomery as the Chief Building Official. In this role, they coordinate the work of all Inspection Department divisions, interprets and creates codes and ordinances, and ensures adherence to zoning requirements and construction standards.
Throughout their career, Tate has demonstrated expertise in building design and construction, facility management, regulatory compliance, and overseeing complex operations in various organizations.
Harold Kippy Tate, AIA pursued their education at Tuskegee University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Science. Harold Kippy then continued their education at Tuskegee University and earned a Masters of Architecture degree. Alongside their education, Harold also obtained additional certifications, including Home Builder from the Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board in July 2022. Harold Kippy is also certified as an Architect by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) and the State of Alabama Board of Architects. Additionally, Harold holds certifications as a Disaster Service Professional from the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, and as a Qualified Credentialed Inspector (QCI) from the Home Builders Association of Alabama. Though not specified, it is assumable that Harold has also completed the OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety and Health training provided by the U.S. Department of Labor.
