Erik Tungate has extensive experience in municipal government and economic development. Starting in 2012, they worked as the City Manager (Chief Executive Officer) for the City of Oak Park, where they managed the city's budget of $36 million and implemented policies and priorities set by the City Council. Prior to that, from March 2012 to July 2012, they served as the Acting City Manager (Chief Administrative Officer) for the City of Hamtramck, overseeing all city departments and working closely with the City Council and various organizations to address community issues.

Before their roles in municipal government, Tungate held positions in economic development. Erik Tungate - worked as a Development Officer (Executive Manager) for Wayne County Michigan from April 2011 to January 2012, leading project management efforts and managing relationships with large corporations.
