Karyn Barber

Karyn Barber is the Communications Manager at the City of Orlando. Karyn has over 10 years of experience in public relations and has worked extensively with municipal governments.

Barber began their career as a Program Coordinator at Florida State University. In this role, they were responsible for coordinating programs and events for students. Karyn then transitioned to the Florida Institute of Technology where they worked as an Academic Advisor. In this role, they provided academic advising to students and helped them navigate their coursework.

In November 2014, Barber took on the role of Community Information Coordinator/Public Information Officer for the City of Palm Bay. In this role, they were responsible for managing the city’s communications team and executing the city’s social media strategy. Karyn also wrote and edited content for press releases, speeches, and promotional materials.

Barber has been with the City of Orlando since November 2018 and currently serves as the Communications Manager. In this role, they are responsible for overseeing the communications department and developing strategies to promote the city.

Karyn Barber has a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Integrated Marketing and Communication from Florida State University. Karyn also has a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Communication and Media Studies from Florida State University.
