Doug McDonald is a seasoned economic development professional currently serving as the Director of Economic Development for the City of Plano since September 2022. Previously, Doug held the role of Interim Executive Director at the Richardson Economic Development Partnership, where responsibilities included managing business retention, attraction, and redevelopment initiatives. As the Managing Director of the Office of Innovation & Placemaking Initiatives for the City of Richardson, Doug coordinated various projects, public/private partnerships, and economic development initiatives. With extensive experience in planning and development, roles as Comprehensive Planning Manager and Senior Planner in the City of Plano and City of Arlington, along with positions in the City of Keller, reflect a strong background in long-range planning and community development. Doug holds a Bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and multiple Master's degrees in public administration and city planning from The University of Texas at Arlington. Furthermore, Doug has completed the Institute of Economic Development at the University of Oklahoma.
