Courtney Hawkins has a diverse work experience in various sectors. Courtney is currently serving as the Chief Operating Officer at the City of Providence since January 2023. Prior to this, they worked at Salesforce as the Health and Human Services Industry Executive from May 2021 to January 2023. From June 2017 to May 2021, Hawkins served as the Director at the Rhode Island Department of Human Services. Courtney also worked as the Chief Policy Officer at the City of Providence from August 2016 to June 2017. Before that, they held the position of Executive Director at Providence Talks, where they implemented an early childhood intervention program aimed at preparing children for kindergarten. Hawkins began their career as a Social Worker at the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services in 2003 and later became the Senior Vice President of Education & Youth Services at FEGS from March 2005 to May 2015.

Courtney Hawkins completed their high school education and received a diploma from South Kingstown HS in 1996. Later, in 1999, they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Rhode Island. Continuing their educational journey, Courtney pursued a Master's degree in Social Work Administration with a focus on Children & Families at Columbia University, which they completed from 2001 to 2003.
