Sheila Dormody

Sheila Dormody has a diverse work experience spanning several organizations. Their most recent role is as the Chief of Policy and Resiliency at the City of Providence, starting in May 2023. Prior to this, they worked at The Nature Conservancy from 2019 to 2023, where they held the position of Director of Climate and Cities Programs. In this role, they led initiatives to address climate change and promote resilience through nature-based strategies and renewable energy.

Before joining The Nature Conservancy, Sheila had a significant tenure at the City of Providence, where they held various roles from 2011 to 2016. Sheila served as the Policy Director and Acting Policy Director, during which they tracked policy and advanced the Mayor's positions on education, economic development, sustainability, and more. Sheila also directed the Office of Sustainability and played a key role in developing Providence's first comprehensive sustainability action plan.

Prior to their time at the City of Providence, Sheila worked at Clean Water Action as the New England Co-director and Rhode Island Director from 2000 to 2011. In that role, they managed programs, raised funds, and supported solid waste campaigns.

Sheila began their career in advocacy organizations like Peace Action and Peace Action Maine, where they held roles such as Organizing Director and Interim Director. Additionally, they served as the Executive Director of the Physicians for Social Responsibility/Maine Chapter.

In 1990, Sheila worked at the Connecticut Public Interest Research Group (ConnPIRG) as the Citizen Outreach Director, focusing on fundraising, advocacy, and public education campaigns.
