Cynthia Esparza has a diverse work experience spanning different industries and roles. Cynthia began their career as a Call Time Manager for a Congressional Campaign in 2008. From 2009 to 2010, they worked as a Case Manager at Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada. Cynthia then transitioned to the University of Nevada Reno, where they held roles as a Coordinator and later Assistant Director in Student Engagement from 2010 to 2015. In 2015, they joined the City of Reno as a Community Liaison and held that position until 2020. During their time at the City of Reno, they also served as a Senior Management Analyst from 2020 to 2021 and as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Manager/Clean and Safe Manager from 2021 to 2022. Currently, they hold the position of Chief Equity and Community Relations Officer at the City of Reno, starting in August 2022.

Cynthia Esparza has a diverse educational background. In 2003, they enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Political Science and Women's Studies, with a minor in Italian Studies. Cynthia completed their undergraduate studies in 2007.

To further their education, Cynthia went on to pursue a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Nevada, Reno. Cynthia attended this program from 2010 to 2013, expanding their expertise in this field.

Cynthia's commitment to professional growth led their to complete an Executive Education Certificate program at the Harvard Kennedy School in 2023. This program, titled "Senior Executives in State and Local Government," equipped their with valuable knowledge and insights specific to senior roles in government. Cynthia obtained this certificate from the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education in July 2023.

In addition to their formal education, Cynthia also undertook a short-term study in Italian Studies at the Università degli Studi della Tuscia in 2006.
