Onkar Buttar is a seasoned urban planner with extensive experience in research, data analytics, and geographic information systems (GIS). Since November 2010, Onkar has served as a Planner-Analyst for the City of Richmond, managing the research and analytics functions of the Policy Planning department and conducting sophisticated research and trend analysis to inform planning initiatives. Prior to this role, Onkar worked as a Planning Technician for the City of Port Coquitlam, focusing on land use applications, permitting processes, and public inquiries. Earlier positions include GIS Technician at the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, where Onkar created and updated GIS data and maps, and Research Assistant roles at the Community Development Institute and Environment Canada, involving data analysis, reporting, and socioeconomic research. Onkar holds an Advanced Diploma in Geographic Information Systems from the British Columbia Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from the University of Northern British Columbia.
