Michael Parker

CEO at City of Rockingham

Michael Parker is the current CEO at City of Rockingham. Prior to that, they were the Chairman and Managing Director of Alcoa of Australia from September 2015 to March 2020. Michael was appointed during a period of flux to bring a strategic, global and diverse perspective to the Alcoa executive team and business.

Michael has focused on bolstering financial, operational and safety standards across the company, identifying opportunities to expand production and developing strategies to future proof Alcoa’s global refinery system. In addition, they have invested time in building leadership capability and maximising utilisation, driving the Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) agenda as a member of the Australian D&I Steering Committee and sponsor of the Alcoa Women’s Network.

During their time at Alcoa, they led the company through the lowest commodity cycle in recent history to a strong position for growth. Michael also delivered significant improvements across operating performance, EHS and people & culture statistics. Michael protected 500+ jobs in repowering of Portland Aluminium smelter, negotiating with power provider, Federal and State governments. In addition, they established the inaugural Diversity & Inclusion Steering Committee, building a company culture of equality, equity and diversity. Michael was awarded the 2019 Chamber Minerals and Energy Western Australia Women in Resources Champion and Gender Diversity Champion at the 2019 Rio Tinto Women in Resources National Awards.

Michael Parker has a Bachelor's degree in International Business from Griffith University. Michael has worked in the field of international business for many years and is currently a manager at a multinational corporation.
