Jay McAmis

Deputy Director, Office Of Emergency Management at City of San José

Jay McAmis, CEM, serves as the Deputy Director of the Office of Emergency Management for the City of San José since January 2019, managing emergency operations for one of the largest cities in the U.S. With prior experience as the Senior Emergency Planning Coordinator for the County of Santa Clara, McAmis developed disaster preparedness initiatives impacting a diverse population of 2 million residents. As Director of Emergency Management at the University of California, Santa Cruz, responsibilities included implementing emergency preparedness programs and leading recovery operations following Presidential Disaster Declarations. McAmis also held the role of Emergency Manager for the County of Santa Barbara, overseeing the coordination of emergency response systems and training programs. A veteran of the U.S. Army Forces Command and related intelligence roles, McAmis provides extensive experience in emergency management and military operations, supported by a BS in Liberal Studies with a focus on Management/Administration from Excelsior University, and multiple advanced training certifications in emergency management.
