Lead GIS Developer at City of Seattle

Toby Semroc has a diverse work experience in the field of GIS (Geographic Information System). Toby started their career as a GIS Analyst at GeoResearch, where they coordinated GPS/GIS data collection and conversion for field inventory projects. Toby also developed scripts for data conversion and map creation.

Later, Toby worked as a GIS Analyst/Developer at the City of Carlsbad. Here, they developed a desktop application using Map Objects and Visual Basic for city employees to view and analyze GIS data. Toby also customized ArcMap and created ArcIMS-enabled websites to display GIS data.

After that, Toby joined the University of Washington Extension as a Class Instructor, where they taught GIS courses and developed lectures and technical exercises using various GIS tools and technologies.

Currently, Toby is working at the City of Seattle as a Lead GIS Developer. In this role, they have been involved in various projects and efforts, including implementing Azure DevOps CI/CD Pipelines and Azure Cloud Hosted applications. Toby has also designed and implemented GIS Microservices with deployment slots and auto scaling.

Overall, Toby has gained extensive experience in GIS application development, programming, data collection, and teaching GIS courses.

Toby Semroc completed a BA in French and Geography at West Virginia University from 1988 to 1992. Toby then pursued an MA in Geography at the University at Albany, SUNY from 1993 to 1996.
