Cathy Heron has extensive experience in municipal governance and leadership, currently serving as the Mayor of the City of St. Albert since November 2010, after previously holding the position of Councillor. Heron has held various roles in regional organizations, including President and Director for Alberta Municipalities | Strength in Members from September 2015 to September 2023, and Vice President for the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association from September 2017 to September 2021. Additional contributions include serving as a Board Member for the Alberta Capital Region Wastewater Commission and the Alberta Recycling Management Authority. Heron began their career in the medical field, working as a Supervisor in the UST division of Envirotest Laboratories from May 1995 to April 1999. Educational credentials include a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and Chemistry from the University of Alberta and a diploma in medical laboratory technology from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.
