Alan French

Principal Engineer at City of Upland

Alan French has extensive work experience in civil engineering. Alan started their career at DMJM Harris in 1990, where they designed various highway, rail, airport, utility, and drainage facilities. Alan then joined the County of Riverside in 1998, initially working as an Associate Civil Engineer in the Plan Check section. Alan later became the Senior Civil Engineer, supervising the Plan Check section and managing staff and consulting firms. In 2017, they transitioned to the City of Grand Terrace as the Director of Public Works, overseeing the Public Works Department and managing maintenance, capital improvements, and encroachments. Most recently, in 2020, they joined the City of Upland as the Principal Engineer.

Alan French earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from California State Polytechnic University-Pomona, where they studied from 1983 to 1986. Prior to that, they completed an Associate of Science and Associate of Arts degree in Physical Science and General Education respectively at Chaffey College, from 1980 to 1983. In 2008, Alan also obtained certification from the County of Riverside's Supervisory Excellence Academy.

Upland is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The municipality is located at an elevation of 1,242 feet (379 m). As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 79,040, up from 73,732 at the 2010 census. It was incorporated on May 15, 1906, after previously being named North Ontario. Upland is located at the foot of the highest part of the San Gabriel Mountains. The Los Angeles suburb is part of the Inland Empire, a metropolitan area situated directly east of the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
