Fire Chief at City of West Columbia

Marquis Solomon, SPHR has extensive experience in the field of firefighting and leadership. Marquis began their career with the City of Columbia Government as a Fire Captain, where they served in various roles and managed a team of recruiters. In 2014, they joined the City of West Columbia and held positions such as Battalion Chief of Operations, Deputy Fire Chief, and currently serves as the Fire Chief.

In addition to their work in the fire department, Solomon has also worked for the SC Office of State Fire Marshal as an Adjunct Instructor, Resident Instructor, and Curriculum Developer. Marquis played a key role in developing new curriculum and collaborating with academic contractors for public safety education. Marquis also served in leadership positions with the SC Task Force and as an instructor for state, national, and international-level fire service certification courses.

Solomon has also worked as an Organizational Development Consultant for InnovaTrain Solutions and as an Adjunct Professor at Benedict College, where they delivered instruction in the areas of organizational and leadership development, human resource development, workforce planning, and labor/union relationship management.

Prior to their current roles, Solomon served as an Adjunct Faculty at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, where they instructed various courses and provided executive leadership coaching for government officials.

Marquis Solomon, SPHR, holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Business Management from Liberty University, which was obtained in 2010. Marquis also obtained a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Management & Leadership from the same institution in 2013. In addition to their academic qualifications, Marquis holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources® (SPHR®) Certification, which they obtained from HRCI in March 2019.
