Dustin Fields has extensive work experience in the field of firefighting. Dustin started their career as a Fire Fighter at Rural/Metro Corporation in 1991 and worked there until 1994. Dustin then joined the Yuma Fire Department in 1994 and held various roles including Fire Fighter, Fire Engineer, Emergency Management Coordinator, Fire Captain, Battalion Chief, and Interim Assistant Fire Chief. From 2014 to 2022, Dustin served as the Assistant Fire Chief, where they provided administrative oversight, worked on long-range planning and budgeting, and acted as a liaison to stakeholders in the region. In 2022, they joined the City of Yuma, Arizona as the Acting Fire Chief and later became the Fire Chief.

Dustin Fields' education history begins in 1990 when they attended Arizona Western College. Dustin completed an Associate of Arts and Sciences (AAS) degree in Fire Science in 1997 and also obtained an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in General Studies in 1992. In 2006, they attended Arizona State University and became a Certified Public Manager in the same year. Afterward, in 2013, they enrolled at Waldorf College where they pursued a degree in Fire Science Administration, completing it in 2014.

From 2014 to 2019, Dustin Fields attended the National Fire Academy, where they received a degree in Executive Fire Officer and specialized in Fire Services Administration.
