John Stephens

Director-power System Control/planning at City Utilities of Springfield

John Stephens has over 30 years of work experience in the electric power industry. John started their career as a Research Assistant at Clemson University Electric Power Research Association, where they focused on researching and modeling power quality concerns. John then moved on to Tucson Electric Power, where they served as a Transmission Planning Engineer and later as a Transmission/OASIS Coordinator. In these roles, they were responsible for conducting power system studies and managing the Open Access Same-Time Information System (OASIS). Currently, John is the Director of Power System Control/Planning at City Utilities of Springfield, where they oversee a team responsible for the operation and control of the electric generation, transmission, and distribution systems.

John Stephens received a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical Engineering from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1991. Following that, they pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Clemson University, which they completed in 1993. In terms of additional certifications, they obtained the Professional Engineer designation from the state of Missouri in December 2016. Additionally, they received the NERC System Operator Certification (Balancing, Interchange and Transmission Operations) from the North American Electric Reliability Corporation in February 2003.
