Alex Zimmerman is a seasoned journalist with extensive experience in covering education and social issues. Currently serving as a Reporter at Chalkbeat since March 2016, Alex focuses on New York City public schools, emphasizing education inequity and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on learning. Prior experience includes freelance writing for notable outlets such as Village Voice, Vice, and Atlas Obscura, where topics included transit and police accountability. As a Staff Writer for Pittsburgh City Paper, Alex developed investigative features on police accountability, transportation, and the LGBT community. Earlier career highlights include reporting for Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, where Alex covered breaking news and city politics. Alex holds a B.Phil in Politics & Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh.
