Álvaro Fernández has a diverse background in platform/devops engineering and support roles. Álvaro started their career as a Ph.D. candidate at NTNU, where they conducted research in cost-effective dependability of optical networks. After completing their Ph.D., Álvaro joined StratioBD as a support technician, where they integrated big data technologies in a PaaS based on DC/OS. Álvaro later transitioned to the role of devops and software engineer at StratioBD, focusing on automating the deployment and operation of clusters using tools like Ansible and Docker.

In 2020, Álvaro joined Empathy.co as a platform engineer, responsible for installing, managing, and operating the platform based on Kubernetes. Álvaro also managed cloud infrastructure using Terraform and Atlantis.

Álvaro's next role was as an independent contractor at Keyko, where they operated and maintained the Keyko.io CELO blockchain validator. Álvaro also set up the monitoring stack using Grafana Cloud.

Currently, Álvaro is a platform/devops engineer at cLabs, where they manage the cloud infrastructure and has successfully migrated their owned infrastructure to a Mento spin-off. Álvaro also installs and manages deployments based on Kubernetes.

Alongside their formal education, they also obtained several certifications, including the Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, MongoDB Certified DBA Associate (C100DBA), Prometheus Certified Associate (PCA), Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS), AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD), Elastic Certified Engineer, HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate, and Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer. These certifications were acquired from institutions such as Microsoft, MongoDB, The Linux Foundation, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Elastic, HashiCorp, and Google, between the years 2021 and 2023.
