Earlier experience includes serving as Director of SOX/Internal Audit at Diplomat Rx from August 2016 to February 2020, where responsibilities included preparing risk-based audit plans and ensuring compliance with internal controls. Jeremy began the professional career at Plante Moran, holding the position of Associate (Senior Manager) from August 2006 to July 2016, specializing in financial services assurance for various financial institutions. Jeremy holds a BBA in Accounting from Northwood University, earned in 2006.

Our Midwestern roots combined with our unconventional backgrounds provide the foundation for the investment philosophy we utilize to serve institutional and individual investors alike. Clarkston’s beginnings trace back to 2004 when brothers Jeff and Jerry Hakala founded the firm following early careers other than investment management — public accounting and corporate finance, respectively. During this time, they developed a passion for investing, and without the prototypical portfolio management background, they were able to take a patient approach to developing their own investment strategy.
