Zijie "Beryl" Xia

Beryl Xia has a diverse range of work experience spanning several industries. Zijie "Beryl" began their career as a Chemistry Lab Teaching Assistant at St. Olaf College in 2011, where they assisted students in the lab and graded lab notebooks. In 2012, they also worked as a Chemistry Tutor, helping students with organic and physical chemistry homework and quiz preparation.

Beryl continued their education at St. Olaf College, conducting research on algae as a potential biofuel resource from 2012 to 2013. Zijie "Beryl" used chemistry to extract and analyze lipids from algae. Zijie "Beryl" also worked as a Summer Researcher and Semester Student Researcher during this time, focusing on the study of algae.

In 2013, Beryl took on a SURE student role at The Hormel Institute, where they conducted summer research primarily focused on cancer. Zijie "Beryl" worked alongside professional researchers and acquired biological and biochemical skills.

After completing their undergraduate studies, Beryl pursued a Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley from 2014 to 2019. Their research focused on biological mass spectrometry, with an emphasis on mechanism and methods development to enhance protein and protein complex analysis using mass spectrometry. Zijie "Beryl" also served as a Graduate Student Instructor, mentoring students in various mass spectrometry labs and developing new experiments to improve their understanding of mass spectrometry methods. Additionally, they guided students in analyzing different green tea samples using LC-MS to identify and quantify caffeine, theanine, and catechol content.

Beryl's experience at UC Berkeley also included a role as a Lab Safety Coordinator from 2017 to 2019, where they oversaw laboratory safety protocols and ensured compliance with regulations.

In 2016 and 2017, Beryl served as a Pro Bono Consultant at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business, providing volunteer consulting services.

Following their time at UC Berkeley, Beryl joined Stanford University as a Life Science Research Professional from October 2019 to June 2020.

Most recently, Beryl has been working at Claros Technologies Inc. since June 2020. Zijie "Beryl" started as a Senior Analytical Chemist, focusing on providing analytical support for internal research and development of environmental pollution remediation products. In their current role as Lead Analytical Chemist, they continue to provide analytical support and is responsible for building an analytical lab to serve clients and partners. Claros Technologies Inc. is an advanced materials company dedicated to developing more efficient, safe, and sustainable products with zero toxic waste.
