Head of Engineering R&D + QA at ClearCalcs

Brooks H. Smith, CPEng, PE, MIEAust, NER has held a variety of roles in their career. In 2018, they became the Head of Engineering R&D + QA at ClearCalcs, where they manage and leads all engineering research and development, as well as quality assurance, within the ClearCalcs cloud-based structural design platform. Prior to this, they were a Senior Engineer at NBM Technologies, Inc. from 2015-2018. From 2014-2015, they were a Research Fellow at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and in 2014, they were a Thru-hiker and 2000-Miler on the Appalachian Trail. From 2012-2014, they were a Staff Engineer at Whitlock Dalrymple Poston and Associates, and from 2010-2012, they were a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In 2008, they were a Development Coop at ANSYS, Inc. (Fluent division), and a Co-op with Dartmouth College at Hypertherm, Inc., where they designed and built a prototype of a fully autonomous plasma torch intended for rapidly cutting through metals during emergency situations as part of a group of three students (culminating project for B. E. degree). In 2002, they were a Computer Systems Support Volunteer at Housatonic Habitat for Humanity, and from 2008-2010, they were a Project Coordinator at Taylor & Francis Group.

Brooks H. Smith, CPEng, PE, MIEAust, NER obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth in Structural & Materials Engineering in 2008-2009. Brooks H. then earned an A.B. degree in Engineering Sciences modified with Mathematics from Dartmouth College in 2004-2008. In 2010-2012, Smith obtained a Master of Science in Civil Engineering (M.S.C.E.) from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Structural Engineering. In 2009, Smith was awarded the Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T.) certification from the New Hampshire Joint Board of Licensure and Certification. In 2014, they were awarded the Appalachian Trail 2000-Miler certification from the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. In 2016, Smith was awarded the Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers. In 2017, they were awarded the Chartered Professional Engineer, National Engineers Register (CPEng, NER) certification from Engineers Australia. In 2018, Smith was awarded the Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) certification from the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland.
