Shai Ronen, Ph.D. has an extensive work history in various research and technical roles. Shai is currently working as the Principal Data Scientist at Cleerly since September 2021. Previously, they served as the Lead Computer Vision Researcher/Engineer at Magic Leap from September 2020 to September 2021.
From October 2015 to September 2020, they worked at Medtronic as a Principal Software Engineer, focusing on developing software and algorithms for surgical navigation and robotics, specifically for brain and spine surgeries. Shai'swork also involved medical image AI/deep learning and physics-based algorithms related to electromagnetic navigation and MRI thermometry.
Prior to Medtronic, Shai worked at Newfield Wireless (now NETSCOUT) from March 2013 to September 2015 as a Senior Member of Technical Staff and Team Leader. In this role, they developed the geolocation engine for software used by telecommunication companies, such as Verizon and T-mobile, using tower connections and statistical algorithms. Shai also managed a small team.
Before that, they worked as a Quantitative Researcher at F.T.T.I from January 2012 to November 2012, and as a Quantitative Analyst at Bank Leumi from May 2011 to December 2011.
Shai has also gained research experience during their academic career. Shai worked as a Post-Doctorate Researcher at the Institute of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information, University of Innsbruck from October 2009 to August 2010. Prior to that, they were a Research Associate at the JILA Institute, University of Colorado from September 2005 to September 2009. In this role, they conducted research in atomic physics, ultra cold gases, and Bose-Einstein condensates. Shai has published a total of 24 papers and received the Fulbright Fellowship.
Shai Ronen, Ph.D. holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Physics and Mathematics from Tel Aviv University. Shai continued their education at Tel Aviv University, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Chemical Physics.
Afterward, Shai pursued further studies at the University of Cambridge. Shai earned a Master of Advanced Studies in Mathematics (MASt) with a focus on Applied Math and Theoretical Physics. Additionally, they obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Astronomy from the same institution.
In terms of additional certifications, Shai completed a specialization in Machine Learning Engineering for Production (MLOps) consisting of four courses through Coursera in August 2022. Furthermore, they also completed the Machine Learning course from Stanford University on Coursera in 2015.
