Scott Catlin has over 20 years of experience in the legal industry. In 2001, they began their career as an Associate at Lyon & Lyon LLP, where they were responsible for prosecuting patent applications and delivering litigation counsel for a wide range of technology clients. In 2002, they joined Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP as an Associate, providing patent prosecution, licensing counsel, litigation analyses, and infringement investigations. In 2004, they became the Director of Intellectual Property Development & Legal Counsel at Reliant Technologies, Inc., where they managed 10 outside counsel for IP, FDA compliance, and labor issues, as well as provided legal advice and business leadership across patent/trademark strategies, technology development, HR, hiring, marketing, and budgeting. In 2005, they joined Abbott Medical Optics Inc. as Section Head (General Counsel), Legal | Division Counsel, Intellectual Property, managing 18 attorneys/paralegals and 40+ global outside counsel. In 2014, they founded Clerio Vision, Inc., an 80-person ophthalmic medical device start-up, and served as IP Consultant. In 2016, they became a Board Member at IBU Design and Development Inc. In 2018, they founded Ligero Inc., a 7-person cryptographic and blockchain software start-up, and served as President. Scott secured $1M+ in VC-funding and developed scalable light-weight secure MPC RSA protocols and auctions. In 2013, they joined the University of Rochester, UR Ventures as Associate VP for Technology Ventures, leading 12 team members and 20+ global outside counsel. Scott drove success of University of Rochester technology ventures, forming 10+ technology start-ups, raising $45M+ in funding for start-ups, delivering $55M+ in license royalties and start-up exits, and managing 700+ patent/copyright families. Most recently, in 2022, they joined metalenz as Internal Counsel and Clerio Vision, Inc. as Founder, IP Counsel.
Scott Catlin received a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Notre Dame Law School in 1995 and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Optical Engineering from the University of Rochester in 1992. In 2003, they obtained a Registered Patent Attorney certification from the USPTO.
