Karen Whistler has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. In 2003, they started as an A&R and Graphic Design Intern at Tooth & Nail Records. From 2004 to 2006, they served as the Editor In Chief at Cascade Publications, Seattle Pacific University. In 2006, they interned as an Internet and Creative Solutions Intern at World Vision. That same year, they also worked as a Graphic Designer at Pivot + Levy. In 2008, they joined Ascentium as a Designer and later moved to Pyramid Communications as a Graphic Designer in 2009. Karen then transitioned to Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2010 as a Research Assistant and Sessional Instructor. In 2012, they became a User Experience & Consumer Insight Strategist at Vancouver Film School. During their time there, they also served as an Instructor for Interactive Design & User Experience. In 2016, they joined Modern Craft as a User Experience Strategist. Finally, in 2018, they joined Clio - Cloud-Based Legal Technology as a Customer Insights Manager. Karen was later promoted to the Senior Manager of Customer Insights role in August 2020.
Karen Whistler completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Communication Design & Studio Art at Seattle Pacific University from 2001 to 2006. Subsequently, they pursued a Master of Applied Arts degree in Design at Emily Carr University of Art and Design from 2010 to 2012. In addition to their formal education, they obtained various certifications, including "Systems Practice: A Practical Approach to Move from Impossible to Impact" from NovoEd in April 2017, "Adaptive Leadership: Mobilizing for Change" from Acumen in March 2017, "Seth Godin's Leadership Workshop" from Udemy in April 2016, "Design Kit: Facilitator's Guide" from NovoEd in February 2016, "Lean Data Approaches to Measure Social Impact" from NovoEd in November 2015, and "Human-Centered Design for Social Innovation" from +Acumen and IDEO in April 2014.
