Ian Mc Donald has worked in the renewable energy industry since 2009. In 2009, they worked as a Research Engineer for Energy Efficiency at CRH, where they designed and developed a mathematical model to calculate the technical, economic, and efficiency implications from using Alternative Fuels for cement production. In 2011, they worked as a Project Engineer at Sea Breeze Power Corp., where they were the lead in-house engineer for all wind, hydroelectric, and transmission related activities and was the project manager for existing hydro development assets and a proposed tidal energy development on the North Coast of BC. From 2013 to 2019, they worked at Wood, first as a Consultant in the Analysis Department, then as a Senior Project Manager, and finally as the Head of Advisory Services for the Americas. In 2019, they began working at Clir Renewables as the Director of Strategic Growth - Product, where they lead new product innovation, partnerships, new investments, and corporate development activities.
Ian McDonald completed a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) at University College Dublin from 2005 to 2009, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Ian then went on to complete a Master of Engineering (ME) at University College Dublin from 2009 to 2010, majoring in Renewable Energy, Energy Economics, Power Systems Operations, Electrical Engineering and Fossil Fuels. Most recently, they completed an Executive Masters of Business Administration (EMBA) at Quantic School of Business and Technology in 2020.
