Carlos Carbonera

Carlos Carbonera has a strong background in software engineering and development, with a focus on CAM applications and machining strategies. Carlos has held various principal software engineer roles throughout their career, working for companies such as CNC Software, Inc., Stratasys, and Jostens, Inc.

At Proto Labs, they served as a principal software developer and was responsible for supporting and developing CAM applications, as well as creating new machining strategies and developing an engine for lathe-turning tool path generation.

At Saint Jude Medical, Carlos gathered requirements, maintained schedules, and assigned tasks for a small development team. Carlos also designed test plans for quality assurance, trained new hires, and mentored junior developers.

During their time at Jostens, Inc., Carlos held two separate principal software engineer positions. Carlos led a team of developers, reduced manufacturing and design costs, and supported marketing requirements by automating the creation of photo-realistic images for a web-based application.

At SDRC, they supported and developed software for the generation of 3-axis tool paths, gathered requirements, and implemented the next generation software with customer interaction.

Carlos Carbonera has a strong academic background in mathematics and physics. Carlos earned their Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1990. Prior to that, they obtained their M.A. in Mathematics from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras in 1985. Carlos began their higher education journey by completing a B.S. in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Puerto Rico in 1983. Carlos also received a high school education.
