Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Ltd. (CPGCBL)
The Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited (CPGCBL), an enterprise of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, is a public limited company registered under the Companies Act, 1994 on 5th September 2011. The main objective of the Company is to generate electricity based on mainly but not solely on coal as fuel. At present, electricity producing in Bangladesh is mostly from Natural gas-based power plant. However, since the current gas demand has increased rapidly and the production or currently available (Proven + Probable) natural gas will face depletion in near future. It is not realistic to establish a policy that depends too heavily on domestic natural gas for the development of a new long-term power generation plan. In order to develop a policy of fuel diversification in the power sector, the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) requested support from the Japanese Government in term of establishing PSMP which covers the strategy to expand coal fired power generation focusing on not only domestic coal but also on imported coal. In this regard, CPGCBL has taken initiatives to develop coal fired power plants with advanced technology. CPGCBL will undertake any scheme for construction of Power Plant under the Private Sector Power Generation Policy of Bangladesh, Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Policy or any other Policy Framework of the Government.
