Sam Martin serves as a Senior Coastal Resources Scientist at the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority of Louisiana since February 2014, where responsibilities include providing specialized scientific assistance and coordinating coastal restoration and flood protection programs. Additionally, Sam holds the role of Executive Management Officer, focusing on emergency management and preparedness in collaboration with state agencies. Prior experience includes serving as Project Manager at IEM from May 1998 to February 2014, overseeing project budgets and managing teams, as well as working as a Statistician on risk analysis for the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program. Earlier career involvement at Plumlee Associates as an Analyst included developing industrial business processes and evaluating software systems. Sam earned a Master’s degree in Applied Statistics and a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Louisiana State University.

The CPRA is the state agency leading coastal restoration, hurricane protection and other community resiliency efforts. Our mandate is to develop, implement, and enforce a comprehensive protection and restoration master plan for coastal Louisiana. Working with federal, state, and local political subdivisions, including levee districts, the CPRA is working to establish a safe and sustainable coast that will protect our communities, the nation’s critical energy infrastructure, and our bountiful natural resources for generations to come.
