Sumeer Bhola

Sumeer Bhola is a distinguished engineer at Cockroach Labs since September 2019, focusing on various layers of the open-source database CockroachDB, notably contributing to the development of Pebble, an LSM store that superseded RocksDB. Prior to this role, Sumeer served as a senior staff software engineer and tech lead at Google from November 2008 to August 2019, leading the Monarch project, which is responsible for a globally distributed monitoring system managing extensive data and queries. Sumeer's earlier experience includes a position as a research staff member at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center from November 1999 to October 2008, where research concentrated on distributed systems and middleware. Academic qualifications include a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Bachelor's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
