Oscar Alvizo

Sr Director Of Computational Biology at Codexis

Oscar Alvizo has a wealth of experience in the field of computational biology and bioinformatics. Oscar began their career in 2001 as a Graduate Student at both the California Institute of Technology and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. During this time, they conducted research on computational design of HIV protease specificity and managed and designed projects. In 2007, Alvizo joined Codexis, Inc. as a Bioinformatics Scientist, where they led research on low-cost CO2 capture using enzyme catalysis. Oscar managed scientists, research, partners, and budgets, and worked closely with in-house counsel to ensure adequate coverage of the IP landscape. In their most recent role at Codexis, Alvizo served as the Sr. Director of Computational Biology, where they continue to contribute to the progress of the group.

Oscar Alvizo completed their B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz from 1997 to 2001. After that, they pursued a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Caltech from 2001 to 2007.
