David O'Steen

Director of Data at Coffee Meets Bagel

David O'Steen has had a successful career in data science and engineering. David began their professional career in 2003 at Sand Hill Econometrics, where they worked as an Associate. In this role, they owned the software implementation of the company's index of returns for venture-backed companies, built a logistic regression model to predict the likelihood of a venture-backed company going out of business, published quarterly reports, managed teams of researchers, consulted with LPs and GPs, and developed an NPV model to benchmark custom venture segments. In 2015, they joined Coffee Meets Bagel as a Director of Data. In this role, they led initiatives that increased current user retention to all-time highs, worked with data scientists to produce novel analyses, worked with data scientists and engineers to plan and execute on an overhaul of the backend matching platform, drove new strategic product initiatives, and built an A/B testing framework for the matching algorithm. David also held roles as a Data Science/Engineering Manager, Senior Data Engineer/Data Scientist, and Data Engineer/Data Scientist.

David O'Steen received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University in 2001, and a Master of Science in Computer Science from Stanford University in 2011.
