Understanding the unique needs of his clients is central to Karl’s philosophy and can be seen in the lasting relationships he has with several of them. Karl a vice president, the managing principal of the Spokane office, and a structural engineer.

His focus on federal projects in recent years has given him the opportunity to work on projects for the General Services Administration (GSA) and the Department of Defense (DOD) including numerous projects at Fairchild Air Force Base. Through his varied experience with defense engineering, Karl has developed an in depth understanding of special security requirements and anti terrorism force protection (ATFP). It is this knowledge base, coupled with his ability to collaborate with the client, that keeps Fairchild Air Force Base consistently coming to him for engineering services.

Karl’s emphasis on open communication, teamwork, and listening to the needs of clients is directly reflected in his leadership in the office. He understands that each person on staff has their own unique ideas and perspective, and that through fostering a healthy, balanced culture that emphasizes teamwork and collaboration, all of those perspectives can manifest in innovative and practical solutions for any project.

Whether it be in engineering or leadership, Karl believes that constantly improving your skill set is essential to leading an innovative, progressive firm; characteristics that Coffman prides itself on. His commitment to his position of leadership can be seen in his involvement in the Emerging Leader Program at Gonzaga University, where he is honing his leadership skills in order to be the best general manager possible.
