Renato Molina

Renato is a principal, registered fire protection engineer, and operations manager of Coffman’s D.C. Metro office. Renato manages daily business operations and maintains responsive local engineering services. He has more than two decades of experience in the fire protection industry working with design teams, construction teams, property managers, and building owners. Renato’s experience has included projects throughout the Americas, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia Pacific to achieve compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and standards, International Building and Fire Codes, and Federal Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC).

A University of Maryland graduate (Go Terps!), Renato has worked in various industries, including civic, courthouse, higher education, hospitality, health care, commercial office, large public assemblies, high rise, government, and historic facilities. He has assisted clients with fire/life safety building code summaries and developed alternative approaches to code compliance. Such work included developing performance-based design approaches and the requisite interactions with stakeholders, including local building and fire officials. Renato’s work has also included projects that involve the design and testing of fire protection systems such as automatic sprinklers, private fire mains, fire water storage tanks, fire pumps, and fire alarm and detection systems.

Renato maintains a close connection with his University of Maryland roots. From 2012 to 2018, he served on the Curriculum Advisory Committee of the Department of Fire Protection Engineering.
