Mark Webbink

Mark was the first general counsel of Red Hat, Inc. and later served as senior vice president and deputy general counsel for Intellectual property for the company. During Mark’s tenure with Red Hat he developed a number of groundbreaking intellectual property practices, including Red Hat’s Patent Promise and the legal foundations for Red Hat’s subscription model for open source software. Prior to Red Hat, he was in private practice with Moore & Van Allen, PLLC where he represented a wide range of technology companies. After leaving Red Hat, Mark was a Senior Lecturing Fellow at Duke University School of Law where he taught intellectual property licensing. He also spent four years as a visiting professor at New York Law School where he oversaw the Peer-to- Patent project. Mark has extensive knowledge of open source software licensing and intellectual property strategies.
