Elka Sierra

Elka Sierra has a diverse work experience spanning multiple companies and roles. They started their career in 2003 at Hoerbiger as an Analyst of currency exchange control department. In 2006, they joined Eni as an Exploration Geophysicist, where they were involved in seismic interpretation, static model creation, and volumetric calculations for reserves until 2010.

In 2011, Elka moved to Schlumberger and took on various positions. They initially started as a Geoscientist, providing technical and sales support for GeoX customers and assessing exploration and exploitation projects. From 2012 to 2016, they worked as a Product Owner for Exploration Decision Support - GeoX, where they facilitated communication between stakeholders and the product development team. They also achieved the successful commercial release of a new product within a complex platform. From 2016 to 2017, Elka served as a Product Owner for Petrel Wells, ensuring that client needs were communicated effectively to the software engineering team.

From 2017 to 2021, Elka worked as a Senior Product Owner Geological Interpretation at Schlumberger. In this role, they were responsible for product development related to Geological Interpretation workflows in Petrel, including software development, UX design, and delivering four Petrel releases.

Most recently, Elka joined Cognite in 2021 as a Senior Director of Product Management - Seismic Service. They were responsible for a back-end service that served seismic data to various consumers, utilizing high-end technology to ensure efficient queries among large volumes of data. In 2022, Elka transitioned into the role of Group Product Manager - Subsurface, overseeing product management for subsurface-related projects. Currently, Elka holds the position of Lead Product Manager - Data Onboarding at Cognite, starting in July 2023.

Elka Sierra has a strong educational background in the field of earth sciences and petroleum engineering. From 1998 to 2004, they attended Universidad Simón Bolívar, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Geophysicist Engineering. Following this, they pursued further studies in earth science and oil and energy, earning a Master's degree from the same university between 2005 and 2012. In addition, they spent two years, from 2008 to 2010, at Politecnico di Torino, where they completed a Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering. Overall, Elka Sierra has a comprehensive academic foundation in the areas of petroleum engineering, geology, and other earth sciences.
