Steve Hastings

Steve Hastings has extensive experience in the fields of machine learning, data science, and analytics. Steve began their career in 2009 as a Research Assistant at Gonzaga University, where they developed a computer vision process to collect data on lady beetle larval movements. In 2010, they became an Assistant Entomologist at Sterling International, where they developed and implemented a web-based data collection and automated analysis system. From 2012 to 2013, Steve worked as a Scientific Programmer/Analyst at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis, where they developed a custom R framework to help stakeholders evaluate how changes in management practices affect performance indicators in ocean health. From 2014 to 2017, they worked at Concur as a Senior Software Design Engineer, Software Design Engineer III, and Software Design Engineer II. During this time, they led the design/implementation of a Continuous Delivery Platform for data science APIs, built high performance services in Python, and used Spark to process data for consumption. From 2017 to 2019, Steve worked at Blueprint Technologies as Director, Data Science and Analytics, Principal Architect: Data Science, and Consultant. During this time, they developed a Video Intelligence platform for retail and manufacturing, as well as an end-to-end IoT analytics platform for analyzing sensor data from assets in field and triggering automated workflows in asset management systems in real time. Since 2019, Steve has been working at Cognitiv as VP of Machine Learning, Sr. Director of Machine Learning, Director of Machine Learning, and Principal Machine Learning Engineer.

Steve Hastings attended Gonzaga University from 2006 to 2010, earning a B.S. (Cum Laude) in Biology/Mathematics.
