Matthew Ball has a wide range of work experience. Matthew currently serves as Director of Data Science at Cognota, a position they have held since 2022. Prior to this, they were Lead Data Scientist at Street Contxt from 2014 to 2022, where they focused on statistic inference and model development, including supervised and unsupervised machine learning. Matthew also held the role of Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Street Contxt from 2014 to 2012. From 2012 to 2009, they held the H. G. Thode postdoctoral fellowship in the field of nuclear engineering at McIARS and served as a Sessional Faculty at McMaster University, instructing Engineering Physics 3O04 and 3D03. From 2009 to 2009, they were a Visiting Researcher at GRNSPG, University of Pisa, where they performed uncertainty analysis on neutron kinetics predictions and prepared instructional material related to long-term nuclear spent fuel storage for the nuclear regulatory agency of Lithuania (VATESI).
Matthew Ball attended Honourable Vincent Massey Secondary School, followed by University of Windsor where they obtained a B.A.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2005. Matthew then went on to pursue a Master of Applied Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the same university, which they completed in 2007. In 2008, they began a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering at McMaster University, which they completed in 2011.
