Jonathan O'Donnell

Jonathan O'Donnell has a strong background in state and local tax (SALT) with experience at various organizations. Jonathan is currently working as the Director - State and Local Tax at Cohen & Company since February 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Marathon Petroleum Corporation from February 2020 to November 2022, where they served as Sr. Counsel / Manager State Income Tax Planning. At Marathon Petroleum, they were responsible for state income tax planning projects, indirect tax and partnership planning projects, drafting agreements, contracts, and business development proposals.

Before joining Marathon Petroleum, O'Donnell worked as Manager - State and Local Tax Controversy at Eaton from November 2018 to February 2020. There, they managed SALT audits, complex sales and use tax and property tax audits, and played a direct role in state tax planning and evaluation.

Prior to Eaton, O'Donnell worked as a Senior Manager at KPMG from May 2016 to November 2018, focusing on SALT planning and strategy for large-cap, multinational businesses. Jonathan also performed restructuring for multinational clients, resulting in significant tax savings.

Before KPMG, O'Donnell served as Senior Manager - State and Local Tax at Bober Markey Fedorovich from August 2010 to May 2016. Jonathan assisted clients with SALT issues, including tax planning, entity formation, compliance, and tax controversy representation.

O'Donnell started their career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where they worked as a Senior Associate from January 2007 to August 2010. Jonathan assisted clients with SALT provision, planning, compliance, and restructuring projects. Jonathan also worked briefly as an Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers from January 2007 to February 2008.

Prior to entering the field of tax, O'Donnell worked as a Systems Specialist at Choice One Communications in 2002.
