Recently returning to private practice after serving as a corporate insurance attorney for Apple Inc., Jillian Raines uses her unique insight to help policyholder clients. With knowledge gained from both her in-house tenure and her prior experience as a litigator in private practice, Jill guides organizations through litigation when it makes the best business sense. She creates sensible strategies that preserve commercial relationships and alleviate negative ramifications stemming from the pursuit of courtroom remedies.

With a business-savvy outlook and attention to essential detail, Jill brings an ability to spot issues and creatively address them before they become problems. She collaborates closely with clients and procures an in-depth understanding of their objectives so she can best help them plan and prepare for all risks and contingencies upfront, and ensure payment from the policies purchased when claims arise. Ensuring that insurance policies are the right fit for organizations, Jill helps companies negotiate and obtain sufficient coverage in a range of areas, including those that involve mergers and acquisitions, data security, employment, production and construction as well as across various coverage lines such as directors and officers, professional liability or errors & omissions, employment liability, life sciences, cyber liability, CGL and property.

Jill’s holistic approach to her work encompasses her conscientious efforts to help individuals and teams bridge their interests and align on common purposes. Her excellent people skills, capacity to make people feel comfortable, and talent at facilitating communications among disparate groups and individuals make her extremely effective in ensuring all voices, points of view, and questions are heard.

At Apple, Jill advised on insurance policy language and claims navigation across the company’s portfolio of coverage and supported various business units on risk management and mitigation strategies as well as insurance due diligence. She drafted and negotiated insurance and indemnification terms in numerous commercial agreements, including leases, services, and supplier agreements, and also collaborated with teams across the company as well as external partners to provide all manner of insurance coverage advice. Jill’s counsel also included various insurance regulatory matters, from insurance licensing and product filings to drafting policy and service contract terms and conditions globally.

Prior to working at Apple, Jill spent several years at major litigation firms, representing individual and corporate clients in state and federal insurance coverage and complex commercial litigation, trials, arbitrations, and mediation.
