Aristides Mairena

Aristides Mairena is a Full Stack Software Developer at Cohesic. They have worked as a Software Developer and Research Assistant at the University of Saskatchewan from August 2017 to May 2022. There, they led the development of PlotVision, a web-based SAS system using Vue.js and python/django (backend) for processing, analyzing, and visualizing crop data based on imagery data. They also served as the front-end expert for the dashboard & analytics components by providing exceptional peer support while writing robust client-side code, improving front-end performance, and having a good working knowledge of the back-end side.

In addition to their work on PlotVision, they also lead the development of PlotWorkspace, an interactive dashboard for visualizing crop data using D3.js and Plotly across growing seasons with support for interaction history and collaboration. They also refactored many critical Vue class components to be functional following the Lifecycle hooks pattern to centralize the logic of the methods and make them reusable. Furthermore, they integrated google analytics which resulted in improved metrics to analyze interactions and improve retention.

Throughout their time at the University of Saskatchewan, they worked closely with clients, users and designers by creating prototypes to obtain strong minimum viable products. They also served as a mentor to their teammates, providing front-end technical and research guidance. In addition to their work on software development, they also lead research projects investigating the use of web-based collaborative visualization systems, perception in visualization and empirical comparisons of visualization techniques. They have also written and edited research articles for dissemination in journal and conference proceedings.

Aristides Mairena has a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Saskatchewan and a Bachelor of Arts in Information Technology from Mercyhurst University. They also have a certification from Coursera in Data Scientist Toolbox.
