Martin van Brakel

Martin van Brakel is an experienced EU Policy and Regulations Expert specializing in fish and fisheries at COLEAD.link since May 2022. With extensive consulting experience, previous roles include serving as an External Consultant for FAO, providing guidance on offshore cage farming, and working with the Mekong River Commission on transboundary fisheries management. As an Independent Contractor for DevWorks International, Martin designed a Fisheries Conservation Framework for a USAID program in Nepal. Notably, achievements at WorldFish include improving the wellbeing of 15,000 vulnerable fishing households in Bangladesh and leading value chain rehabilitation for dried fish processing. Martin founded Sustainable Development Business Solutions and has held various research and management roles across international agricultural and water management organizations. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Aquaculture and Development from the University of Stirling, a Master's degree from Wageningen University, and a diploma in Biology.
