Hugo Martínez Alvarado has a diverse work experience in the education sector. Hugo started their career as a professor at the Universidad Alberto Hurtado, where they taught a course on school management and new technologies. Hugo later joined Colegium as the Pedagogical Director and then moved to Eduinnova, where they held the position of Executive Director. During their time at Santillana Chile, they served as the Director of Educational Services and later as the Director of Digital Developments. Hugo also worked at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile as a professor from 2014 to 2020. Hugo was involved with the Ministry of Education in Chile as part of the team "4 a 7" and as a Counselor for the Advisory Board for the Digital Education Agenda. In 2021, they worked as a Teacher for the Virtual Learning Environments Diploma at the Universidad Andrés Bello. Hugo also had engagements with the Conicyt National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research, where they served as a member of the ICT-EDU Experts Committee. Additionally, they taught a TIC course at the Universidad de Santiago de Chile.

Hugo Martínez Alvarado began their education in 1983 at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where they obtained a Licenciatura en Ciencias Religiosas with a specialization in Teología from 1983 to 1986.

In 1990, they attended the Universidad de Playa Ancha and completed a degree in Profesor de Estado en Educación General Básica from 1990 to 1993. Hugo'sfocus of study during this time was in Educación.

Hugo Martínez Alvarado then pursued further studies at the New York Institute of Technology in 1996, where they completed Advanced Studies in Education.

In 1994 and 1995, they attended the Universidad de Santiago de Chile to obtain a Postítulo en Computación e Informática Aplicadas, specializing in Ciencias de la computación.

Most recently, in 2021, Hugo Martínez Alvarado completed a course titled "Introducción a la Ciencia de Datos R" at the Universidad Diego Portales, focusing on Estadística.
