Jim Hamelka is a structural engineer and a Senior Vice President and Division Manager for Collins’ Central Region, with oversight of projects throughout the Midwest. Jim is responsible for technical, business development, financial, and administrative management of the division; achieving the company’s goals; and ensuring policies, practices, and philosophies are followed.
Jim has been with Collins since 1998, joining the firm upon receiving his degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In his time with Collins, Jim has developed his structural engineering expertise, obtaining his structural engineering license (SE) in Illinois, and concentrating on transportation projects and bridge engineering. Jim acted as project manager and lead structural engineer for many significant projects including The 606 and the Ohio Street Interchange over the Kennedy Expressway, respectively.
Jim’s client-focused project approach means he’s always looking to improve the client’s experience and understanding of key project issues. He actively seeks out all forms of feedback to ensure that the final product is the best it can be.
